Here comes another release that does not fit into our already existing genre categorizing system. “LIFE OF A NPC PT.1“ by Off-Reality on Low Res features a nightmarish ambient trip through glitching programs and dying motherboards. It’s astoundingly calm, yet it remains at any time quite threatening. The sounds are equally somehow soft but harsh at the same time.

It becomes apparent that this album is a dystopic remnant of a broken future. Furthermore, it raises more questions than it can answer. While playing the album, the listener may find a good starting point at questioning our contemporary place in the world as humans, as a more and more computerized society that already is sick of being fed AI crap day and night. Well, at least these are my thoughts.

The info text on bandcamp states that this LP captures the very moment an NPC becomes self-aware but also realizes that it never was meant to be capable of feelings and emotions. Well, good luck friend in this world. But spoiler alert, we are here to suffer, so maybe it’s a blessing to not be self-conscious at all. In the end, we have to ask ourselves, if we really are that different from this NPC. I hope you are 😉
