Undoubtedly this is maybe the least expected release we stumbled upon this year so far. Wile nobody knows exactly who Nite Lock is, we can certify that this release is completely nuts. Weird rhythms and strange atmospheres apparently go along very well with untamed kick drum assaults. The “Lock In” EP just features five unique tracks, all doing their own shit and minding nobody’s business. This release is made for people who don’t like their music super hard or fast, but want to witness the full weirdo experience of hard dance music regardless. Lock In by Nite Lock
Matt Green, or also known as Ordeal, constantly keeps pushing his own style like no other. With his latest LP on Motormouth he shows again that industrial hardcore is far away from being discontinued. The album features a broad variety of harsh industrial. The good shit, obviously. The industrial you barely find any longer nowadays! To be honest, there is not too much to say about the release. It hits hard and leaves not much room for discussion. Moreover, the release also features a live performance of the album, which offers a slightly different listening experience. Raw Deal by Ordeal, […]
This magnificent release by Ruby my Dear popped up on Bandcamp recently and is just incredible. While the French mastermind is already known for having an intimate relationship with breakbeats, this release adds some madness to the mix that has not been heard yet. The drumming is simply insane. Completely hectic and off the grids, but precise and always on point. But it’s not that alone that makes the EP stand out. The excessive acid overflows and the support of the moody melodics helps to slightly level out (or even amplify) the weirdness. All in all, the EP sounds just […]
While Hardcore tends to be more and more boring, the new album by Aus Industrial Militia proves everybody wrong who claims that Hardcore is shit nowadays. Sure, the statement may remain true in some regards, but this does not apply at all for this release on Industrial Strength. The album manages to bring dancefloor friendly tracks that break out enough to deviate from the program but still remain danceable at all times. Moreover, it does a good job providing harshness when needed, but it never sounds forced or over the top. The artists behind Aus Industrial Militia Kader and DJ […]
Another collection of rather old tracks comes from Air J. Maybe some of you remember this guy. His works explicitly addresses people who are not afraid of snares. While his style usually centers around Hard Drum and Bass it oftentimes mutates into Crossbreed and Hardcore. Recently, he uploaded all of his old tracks which were written between 2007 and 2022 on bandcamp. For only 5€ you can get a whopping 51 tracks. In addition, there are remixes and collaborations with Peter Kurten, T-Psy and Brainpain, just to name a few. If you do not feel like going through 51 tracks, […]
Known as a Breakcore and Drum and Bass veteran, Amboss returns to Praxis Records with a 10 track album. The album is a collection of previously unreleased tracks which were written between 2000 and 2003. Accordingly, this album is for everyone who wishes to go back to the early 2000s and to the relentless breakbeat violence from this era. All tracks feature severely destroyed soundscapes but in the best way possible. You could even go that far and call it a timeless release. For 5€ you receive a bunch of pretty cool tracks, so definitely consider it! Basic Training (praxis_01001) […]
Finding words for this album is rather difficult. LXC rereleased and remastered “We Have to Hold Apart” along with a previously unreleased bonus tune and it simply sounds incredible. Absolutely weird and otherworldy music that does not follow any known formula. While it partially reminds you a bit of drum and bass it can not easily be put into any category. Just weird bits and bleeps having a good time. Of course, as you’d expect from an LXC release, you receive high quality audio, accompanied with strange puns, but also very thoughtful tracks that do not match anything (well maybe […]
The next release also comes a bit late to the table. But it definitely aged well since June last year. “Tape Bleed 001 VA [Noise Bleed]“ on the Berlin label Pure Hate Trax is a pretty broad approach towards distortion. While the first tracks fall into noisy, ambient sound textures, other tracks work more excessively with kickdrums, blending industrial with even more industrial – fast and slow. It seriously is an excellent composition with a well-crafted build up. The tracks sit great on this release, regardless of their very different speed, rhythms and level of creative destruction. Sure, it’s not […]
Definitely an album from last year that is still worth this year’s attention. “Futurism” by the Austrian Hardcore producer Hardez is exactly how you would imagine an industrial Hardcore album with this title to be. It meanders between dancefloor friendly fire, insane breakdowns as well as industrial soundcapes. Every now and then it features some breaks here and there and enters Crossbreed territory. The style is consistent but still diverse throughout the release. Undoubtedly, everything is produced extremely well, it all sounds great and can effortlessly deliver the eerie, futuristic dystopian vibe, you’d come to expect. There are more releases […]
Right in between Jungle and Drum and Bass sits this excellent piece of breakbeat wizardry. The free album by Evasion, Conman & Mod:Co Perfectly shows how heavy basslines can be. With a timeless sound design it shows versatility and sounds classic but still futuristic. The Polish label Offish is also offering all their digital releases for free. Maybe consider spending some time on their bandcamp page. There’s a lot to discover from dozens of incredible artists. Blind Sighted by Evasion, Conman & Mod:Co
Cloud Chaser by LabRot offers a bright perspective on – well what is this actually? Hmm, the release feeds on several styles such as techno, hardcore and industrial, but that’s apparently not all. It’s hard to find words for it, but it’s something else. Something partially truly broken und unheard before. In addition, the trippy sound design is never afraid to overthrow everything and to start anew. This makes the release an intriguing experiment without any foreseeable result. LabRot – Cloud Chaser by CORELIGULA
Only few can deliver albums like Somatic Responses. After all these years they just won’t run out of ideas. Their sound is still developing into realms you’ve absolutely never heard of. The whole album is a journey into uncharted territory without any boundaries. This also explains why the sound is constantly evolving into more and more sophisticated patterns of hectic acoustics. Undoubtedly, it’s the flow of their tracks that make this music stand out so much. The soundscapes effortlessly switch between dreamy and silky pads accompanied by lively percussions to gritty colorful worlds of darkness – if that makes sense. […]
With tracks that are nearly 20 years old now already, you can’t hardly speak of a new release. However, Raiden took some time and effort to remaster some of his old classics and that’s the result. This EP features only collabs with the drum and bass mastermind Current Value. The featured tracks here are rolling as deep as your sub can go. Especially RM Bleeps has always been an excellent choice for any dancefloor. But also, the other tracks also could easily convince any drum and bass hater to even move a leg. All in all, it was a nice […]
That’s a nice surprise! Zeuge self-released a short album or EP or whatever it is. In “Maturation” he shows us that Breakcore can be more than just super-fast cut-up breakbeats and distorted kickdrums. Instead, his latest work follows a different vibe. But of course – you might have already guessed it – it is still very rough and relentless. While his older works oftentimes carried a strict in-your-face-vibe, this album now feels calmer, yet it sounds more alien than ever. It features an absolutely otherworldly sound that offers a little bit of everything that sounds odds. From beautiful bleeps and […]
Industrial Strength is not only one of the most import Hardcore labels out there, it is also pushing boundaries when it comes to musically deviances. Their latest release undoubtedly falls into a category of its own. Apwnm x Tannis created a slamming noisescape that heavily feasts on spoken words. In “The Axis of Self” both artists went into uncharted territory. It’s extremely well produced and dark as hell. Especially the words by Tannis provide this EP with a very emotional and intense atmosphere. In case you want to dig deeper, we can highly recommend to also check out their homepage. […]
The third and sadly the last chapter of Celsius’ “Voyager” trilogy is a solid EP packed with Hardcore and heavily distorted breaks. We can also highly recommend to listen to part 1 and part 2. All releases capture the oldschool sound with all the naivety and sample extravaganza you’re used to know from way back when. Voyager Part. 3 by Celsius
The Oblivion Underground guys came up with a new Remix competition. This time of Deathmachine’s “Dred” and here’s the result. Thirteen tracks made it onto the release. You can expect lots of hard music from 140 to 200 BPM. Maybe you will not like every track on it, but it’s definitely worth going through the tracks to discover some weirdness. (OBLIVION022) Dred_The Remixes LP by Deathmachine / Various
Hell yeah, here’s the next completely free release for you. This compilation on Ohm Resistance from Estonia comes with a whopping 23 tracks ranging from Drum and Bass to Crossbreed, some Hardcore, but also very slow and sludgy electronics. Yeah, it’s pretty cool, seriously, the variety of artists on this release makes it really stand out. Since it’s free there’s also nothing to lose! Give it a listen and maybe consider donating a few bucks, if you want to support the label. APHELION 2023 by Various Artists
EXE Project is giving away some crazy good futuristic DnB for free at the moment. The compilation which consists of 9 tracks features tracks from their previous releases – the only difference, it’s for free! Since EXE Project is synonymous with quality shit, also their artists are. You receive tracks from artists such as Crawler, Gore Tech, Blockdata just to name a few. Getting this release is an absolute no brainer. However, the label would most probably appreciate a few bucks, if you got some spare money. EXE-D012 – EXE Project Label Sampler by EXE Project
Ah shit, look at this. Promo released a ton of material on the Third Movement. The first thing to mention is clearly the rerelease of his own album “Last Men Standing” from 2001. But there’s way more than that. On this release you can also find a ton of additional material. So instead of the 16 tracks on the original album you now have 44. Apart from that, there are also two additional remix EPs. Personally, there was not too much for me on the releases, however since there was so much material, I found a handful of very good […]
There is no doubt that AI penetrates everything nowadays and music is no exception to that. But this of course can mean so much. AI as a tool offers many new interesting approaches to music creation. This can lead to many results, but in the end we are here for the weird shit. So that’s why you get weird shit. Martsman provides us with one excellent example to show you how far you can go already. For this release Martsman used Realtime Audio Variational autoEncoder (RAVE). Briefly explained, you feed music to RAVE and it learns from it. The program […]
Doomsday Conduit on Acroplane Records is the latest installment by the brothers Paul & John Healy better known as Somatic Responses. As usual they show great taste in heavily distorted soundscapes mixed with some of the strangest acid lines you’ve heard so far. And of course, not to forget their breakbeat-wizardry that really drives the tracks through several dimensions. The album is an insane trip with 10 equally enjoyable chapters which all sound very inviting – and always different. Some of these chapters are darker and rougher than others, but in general the overall theme appears to be very glitchy […]
Well, the waiting is finally over! Even though the world is shattered to pieces, there are some things that help you deal with all the bullshit. And this album is definitely one of the silver linings on the horizon. After a slight delay, the Silence present their first full-length album. Words like mind-blowing couldn’t even describe what the album achieved. This is hardcore at it’s peak. It has everything, features old and new, and manages to be innovative at all points. The sound design is just brilliant. Distortion never sounded any better. This clarity and production value is outstanding. Apart […]
After his first album “Unboxed” on PRSPCT last year, Tripped came up with another full length release just recently. Even though the first release was very impressive, the second one lifts this bouncy in-your-face Hardcore style that Tripped is famous for on a new level. It’s great to see that his style develops continuously, but you can still recognize his signature sound. The album features 10 tracks, including a pretty noisy intro with a savory kick drum filter extravaganza. As this sets the tone for the rest of the album, the tracks on it cover a bright palette and include […]
Technically speaking this is not a new release. Instead, it’s a rerelease of an absolute classic EP by none other than the Outside Agency. After nearly 2 decades these tracks finally see the light of day again. I personally waited for a proper digital download forever – basically since the day I discovered the release. Originally it was released on Hong Kong Violence in 2007, and has been unmatched ever since. The sound design with it’s Kung-Fu samples is just bonkers. The release sounds still super fresh and even in 2023 there is nobody who could compete with TOA in […]
Only few releases have the class to cast a spell over you. But luckily, there exist some breathtaking exceptions. Even though the name G.xist didn’t ring a bell or anything so far, the artist managed to produce an atmospheric trip into the unknown. With six utterly different tracks, G.xist pushed the boundaries of sonic exploration. The rhythms do not sound too alien, but still run differently than most electronic music. It therefore also questions your listening habits. But again, it’s not too far away, from what you maybe already appreciate. It’s absolutely worth checking out, especially on a rainy afternoon. […]
The first album by „Noneless” from Australia dives into unexplored musical depths. It’s a very interesting piece that shows ingenuity and curiosity in sound design that’s often lacking in nowadays productions. But not here. Definitely not! With “A vow of Silence” you get everything but not silence. Instead, the album features tons of influences from other genres, mixed with partially ethnic sounding vocal samples, garnished with hectic percussions. The textures are rich and range from abstract atmospheres to very harsh noisescapes. Some tracks stick out due to their ear pleasing qualities, others because they attack your eardrums and show no […]
After 15 Years in the Business, Suck Puck Records celebrates its very own existence with the already 9th installment of the Fuk the Borders series. As you may expect already, the Compilation features everything relentless breakbeat music has to offer. It has a little bit of everything. Literally everything… The compilation offers more or less classic Jungle vibes, as well as super happy breaks, bouncy beats, but also grim and glitchy pieces that don’t fit any formula at all. For 7 Bucks it’s a steal, so consider buying that stuff! It also comes with great artwork which is available as […]
The most recent release by Bong-Ra represents a beautiful take on dark Jungle. The breaks are super solid and well programmed, the synths sound grim and fierce, and the overall sound design brings happiness to our dark hearts. This is not an “in-your-face” release, it’s even a bit reserved. A thoughtful approach to discover the essence of true dark Jungle Breaks. Vaseline by Bong-Ra
The latest Laxenanchaos release “Singing Breakbeats Timeless Travel With You” is a nice and short EP which can be described as an outer space breakcore EP maybe. The EP delivers a little bit of everything from very hard, to bouncy and even dreamy. Singing Breakbeats Timeless Travel With You by Laxenanchaos
